In Ireland our pigs are reared in indoor housing systems. Over recent years Irish pig producers have worked closely with veterinarians and geneticists to adapt their breeding, feeding and housing.
There are 3.75m pigs processed annually in Ireland. Irish sows produce 27 piglets per year, demonstrating our excellence in production.
Each hog is raised to an average 110kg live weight and an average 84kg carcase weight.
Pork production in Ireland is entirely centred on family farms, which are passionately committed to excellence in production.
In addition to the EU’s mandatory standards, Irish pork exports meet the standards set by Ireland’s Pigmeat Quality Assurance Scheme.
