Welfare Friendly Farms
Citizens of the EU and Ireland care deeply about animal welfare and are concerned about the ethical treatment of animals.
Under EU law, animals are recognised as sentient beings, meaning they are capable of feeling pleasure and pain.
Reflecting this, EU animal welfare standards require pigs be able to express behavior in a natural way. For EU pig producers, this means animals being reared in groups, with space to lie down, stand up and rest without difficulty. A clean resting area and the ability to see other pigs at any time are also required.
